Universal access is a key aspect of any event. GUIL’s ramps for people with reduced mobility are designed to provide a safe, convenient alternative to stairs, allowing everybody to get up on to the stage and come down again with no difficulty. They comply with specific accessibility norms and can be assembled in different formats, such as straight ramps, in zig-zag, or going around the stage. In addition, its reinforced aluminium structure and non-slip surface ensure unbeatable stability and safety.
You will find some real examples of different ramp configurations.
RT-3/6 -60 – COMPLETE RAMPS. INCLUDE ALL NECESSARY COMPONENTS
– Ramp for 60 cm-high stages with a length of 6 m – a 10% slope.
– Perpendicular to the stage.
– Includes: 3 x TM440/2×1; 1 x RMP-03 (special), telescopic legs and connectors and safety rails on both sides of the ramp.
Anybody using GUIL’s TM440 platforms to prepare a temporary stage has to think about providing access to it, with even stages of only 40 or 50 cm high needing easy access for everybody. A set of stairs – modular or folding – is the most frequently used option, but for different reasons it is often necessary to use a ramp. Perhaps the people going up on stage are in a procession, perhaps they are taking some kind of object with them, and sometimes the ramp is installed to accommodate people with reduced mobility.
A lot of people find stairs difficult – or even impossible – to use, and a ramp is the ideal solution to allow them to get up on stage, or to move between two areas at different levels. Whether they are in a wheelchair or have restricted use of their legs, the ramp provides them with an easy-to-use alternative to using the stairs.
Build the ramp you need
A lot of norms and rules affect items made for people with disability. Rules about ramps for the disabled can refer to aspects such as:
Please check the rules regarding ramps for people of reduced mobility in your country when inquiring about a ramp for this purpose.
If your ramp is long, you may prefer it to go along two or even three sides of the stage, or to go up in a zig-zag. GUIL can make your ramp in the form that best suits your requirements, including corners, landings and other features to make it as convenient as possible for the users.
Made of strong phenolic plywood board and EN AW 6063 80-T6 aluminium alloy frames with a maximum load capacity of 1200 kg/m2, the platforms offer a rough-texture surface which ensures a sure grip for users, be they walking or on wheels, as well as excellent fire-resistant properties. The strength of the platforms allows them to be used by large numbers of people at the same time.
LEGS & FRAMES: The frames and legs for our platforms are made from EN AW 6063 80-T6 aluminium alloy, and have numerous internal veins for maximum strength. They also have the continuous rail, a slot running along every element of the frame, where accessories such as handrails or access stairs are attached.
Of all the various models of leg that we produce, for use on ramps we recommend the fixed legs with levellers, which provide quick adjustment of up to 5cm, to individually fit each leg to a perfect height and make a supremely stable and solid ramp, even when it is being set up on irregular terrain.
CONNECTORS: The TMU-01 deck-to-deck connector and the TMU-02 deck-to-deck clamp (1 of each free with every TM440 platform) and the TMU-04 leg-to-leg clamp (1 free with every 4 telescopic legs of 70-120cm or more) guarantee that the platforms are all joined together to make a stable, cohesive unit that ensure the safety of all users. We recommend buying extra TMU-01 and TMU-02 connectors and using two of each one on every side connecting with another platform.
The ramp starter kits (Ref. RMP-01 and RMP-03) include an aluminium starter plate (40cm for the RMP-01 and 100cm for the RMP-03) with connectors, fixed-length legs for the bottom platform of the ramp, and two angle-adjustable telescopic legs for the top platform.
ACCESSORIES: The continuous rail along the frame elements allows safety rails and chair-stops to be fitted to any platform, to guarantee the safety of the people using the ramp.
ADVANTAGES: GUIL’s stage platforms are easy to set up, and the connectors and leveller legs mean the ramp can be assembled and adjusted to provide a solid and reliable surface for people of reduced mobility.
The phenolic film covering and sealed edges of the boards, combined with the aluminium frames, means that the TM440 stage platforms are suitable for use both indoors and outdoors. They are not made for long-term installation outdoors, but can be left in place for a few days if the event requires it.
The phenolic birchwood board and the telescopic legs make GUIL ramps very strong, with no need for any reinforcing bars under the board. The option of adding up to four additional legs to each frame increases the maximum weight capacity by as much as 33%, to a maximum of 3200 kg per platform, allowing vehicles, for example, to use the ramp, and not just people.
There is also the option of adding a crossbar (Ref. RF/5) to fit an additional leg in the centre of the platform for extra resistance in specific circumstances. GUIL’s 21mm-thick boards usually mean that there is no demand for crossbars or centrally-positioned legs, but they’re available in case they’re needed.
Versatility: design and build the ramp you need – and other uses for GUIL’s platforms
With GUIL’s ramps, you can build the ramp you need for every event. The length, width and inclination can be configured as necessary in each case, with the length and inclination being interdependent, of course. The width will depend on who will be using the ramp, and can be just 1 metre, or the width that is necessary on each occasion.
If you require a ramp with changes of direction, GUIL can provide you with platforms to make landings where the users can turn 90° or even 180°. Please remember that there are three kinds of possible construction of a ramp:
GUIL can also manufacture platforms with special shapes, such as triangular ones for use in the landings, and we will be glad to help you if you have any customised forms that you would like us to quote for you.
GUIL manufacture platforms with the strength and other conditions to make events with our ramps and platforms a resounding success. The platforms themselves can be used to make ramps, stages, choir risers, grandstands for spectators at sporting events,… The list is as varied as the kinds of events that need to be organised. Please don’t hesitate to contact us for advice on how to make the most of your platforms.
