Moving and lifting a harvesting robot in a Swedish algae factory with a GUIL lifter
Moving and lifting a harvesting robot in a Swedish algae factory with a TORO C-302/C lifter
MARCH 31, 2022
In their greenhouse on the Swedish coast, the factory Swedish Algae grow a special group of algae called diatoms, which are used in personal care products – and also in solar panels. The greenhouse has a floor area of over 2,000 m2, but the total space for cultivation is over 10,000 m2, as the algae are cultivated on several shelf levels – and that’s where their TORO C-302/C comes in.
Space is important in any factory, and the TORO C-302/C’s compact design allows it to fit comfortably between the stacks of vats where the algae are growing. The lifter is used to move the algae harvesting robot between the vats to harvest the algae from each one. It can turn on the 8 wheels on its base, and move the robot into position over the vat to be harvested, while its side stabilisers will make sure that the load is safe and balanced at all times, and its 330kg lifting capacity means that it can handle the robot with ease. The TORO C-302/C is a manual lifter, so is always ready to be used, and produces no exhaust fumes inside this clean environment.
The Swedish Algae Factory was founded in 2016, and has grown from its original greenhouse to its present size. As well as its products for personal care products and solar panels, which are processed on their own premises, the company are also constantly researching other possible uses for the diatoms and for other algae – and seeking new uses for their TORO C-302/C!
